Why Is a Pressure Washer’s Efficiency Not Determined by Pressure Alone?

The efficiency of a pressure washer is determined by the combination of flow rate, which represents the amount of water delivered, and pressure, which indicates the force with which the water reaches the surface.

For this reason, a pressure washer with high pressure and a low flow rate may not provide the expected performance. While pressure helps loosen dirt, water flow helps remove and carry away the debris, making the cleaning process faster and more efficient.

When recommending or choosing a pressure washer, it is important to consider not only its pressure but also its water flow rate. Without an adequate volume of water, high pressure may not provide the necessary cleaning effectiveness.

For example, a 1,800 PSI pressure washer with a flow rate of 6 L/min, equivalent to 360 liters per hour, does not necessarily guarantee better performance than a 450 PSI pressure washer with a flow rate of 11 L/min, equivalent to 660 liters per hour.
